Its an old maori proverb meaning “turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you”.
Need I say more.
Contrariwise: Literary Tattoos
The original literary tattoo blog! Over 600 tattoos from books, poetry, music, and other sources.
Now that's an amazing piece of work. Even more so considering that the Maori tradition of tattooing is so integral to the history of the art form.
Great piece of work where did you get it ??
I love this! Makes me look forward to going to NZ and learning more about Maori culture!
Awesome bro! that is beautiful and the script really makes it too – Kia Kaha
Hey! Can I ask where you got the translation? I've seen that quote around a lot in english and trying to find its original maori form, but I'm getting a lot that are all quite different from one another, I figure you must be quite certain getting it tattood! :)
I got it from an elderly Maori woman who translated it for me.
I am having this tattoo done on 23rd Feb and a Hei-tiki dangling from the letters as if a pendant. I really do need confirmation that the spelling of this tattoo is correct. Can any person with knowledge of Maori help me?
Hi can someone send me the correct spelling with accents on this tattoo? [email protected]
Hello people..

I really wanna get this proverb as a tattoo.
Thank U
