Amy’s tattoo comes from Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain.
Tags: Life on the Mississippi, Mark Twainit helps me to let go of guilt i have from the past, as well as not freak out about what is to come. i am a teacher. teaching is a wonderful profession, but can also be quite stressful. i am very hard on myself at times, thinking i should do everything perfect the first time around. this helps to remind me that am i forever learning, along with my third grade students. i struggled with the font. originally i wanted to use ‘american typewriter’, but then went with my own handwriting to make it more personal… it looks as though i scribbled on my wrist with a sharpie, but i like that.

how much did this cost?
i think it cost around $50…with tip i paid $65.
Does your school have problems with you having a tattoo? Do you have to keep it covered, or do they allow you to have it displayed?
i got the tattoo during the summer. i came back in the fall, and i haven’t really heard anything about it. it’s really easy to cover. if i had to, i could wear a watch or a cuff bracelet. i haven’t been told to cover it up. i work in a public school in an urban district. my students were curious. i read them the quote; we discussed it’s meaning. i told them it means we’re always learning. now they don’t even notice it. lots of teachers have tattoos…on their feet, ankles, calves, etc. in fact, many of my students’ parents have ink as well. i was worried about it’s placement at first, but so many people have tattoos now. it’s a lesson in diversity and acceptance really.
i really love your tattoo & the little freckle on your finger :)
emma, your note just made my day. seriously. it was just the thing i needed. it’s the little things :)
sidenote- it’s a bit smiley up in here. i’ve had a glass (or three) of wine… the yellow smiles struck me as funny. it’s wednesday, thank god.
Just wanted to let you know that this made my day as well- I’m currently preparing for my first year of teaching and it is scary to finally have a classroom of your own and to be responsible for everything that goes on. I am always hard on myself about needing to be perfect and going above and beyond what is expected of me as an educator. I feel that because I don’t know everything yet that I am not fully capable. Thanks for your inspiration :) It’s good to know there are more of us out there!
katie – you are fully capable. remember that. the climate in education is VERY McStandardization right now. teacher bashing is all the rage. hold your head high. stay positive. RESISTANCE IS NOT FUTILE. teach what you love and love on the kids. make sure you sing and dance and laugh and make art. keep your classroom alive cuz the system is dead. good luck. have fun.
may i ask what font that is, i have been searching forever for a font and i love yours
bobby – the font is my own handwriting. thanks for the love.
She loved the freckle, you loved the comment… I have enjoyed the entire thread and feel oddly safe and happy with this thread in front of me. I don’t want this little moment to end. — And yeah, “amy font” would be groovy!
how much did this cost!?.. sorry, seen the above comments!.. cool tatoo :D
