Amy, I so needed to see this today. And what a wonderful thread – I totally agree with ano’s comment.
I’ve been a lover of text for years, and play around creating my own personal fonts. This one, with the lower-case vowels and upper-case conconants is something I’ve done before myself. And I love the playfulness of it.
I recently got my first tattoo and it was lettering, but not literary-based. I think I want this one now. the idea of “it helps me to let go of guilt i have from the past, as well as not freak out about what is to come” is something I need to harvest and to use constantly in my life…

i love the hand written look. i recently got a hand-written style quote on my foot. sadly it has faded because i was traveling to a hot area and was not able to appropriately care for it. i still really like the concept and the fact that it is your handwriting is all the better. and yes..the freckle, the freckle. it just ties everything together like it was meant to be there all long..

katie – you are fully capable. remember that. the climate in education is VERY McStandardization right now. teacher bashing is all the rage. hold your head high. stay positive. RESISTANCE IS NOT FUTILE. teach what you love and love on the kids. make sure you sing and dance and laugh and make art. keep your classroom alive cuz the system is dead. good luck. have fun.

Just wanted to let you know that this made my day as well- I’m currently preparing for my first year of teaching and it is scary to finally have a classroom of your own and to be responsible for everything that goes on. I am always hard on myself about needing to be perfect and going above and beyond what is expected of me as an educator. I feel that because I don’t know everything yet that I am not fully capable. Thanks for your inspiration :) It’s good to know there are more of us out there!

i got the tattoo during the summer. i came back in the fall, and i haven’t really heard anything about it. it’s really easy to cover. if i had to, i could wear a watch or a cuff bracelet. i haven’t been told to cover it up. i work in a public school in an urban district. my students were curious. i read them the quote; we discussed it’s meaning. i told them it means we’re always learning. now they don’t even notice it. lots of teachers have tattoos…on their feet, ankles, calves, etc. in fact, many of my students’ parents have ink as well. i was worried about it’s placement at first, but so many people have tattoos now. it’s a lesson in diversity and acceptance really.
