This tattoo is on Aaron, who “regardless of the boy spelling,” is indeed a lady.
The So it Goes tattoo I got after having my beloved cat Jello Biafra put to sleep last year. He was only four. We never really were able to figure out what happened to him, but he gradually lost the use of his front legs, our vet’s best guess was some sort of small tumor on nerve endings. We spent a lot of money and time (driving four hours to see a veterinarian neurologist, taking out a credit card specifically for the vet bills) trying to make him better, but in the end we weren’t able to save him. Some of his ashes were mixed into the ink for this tattoo.
This was posted as a part of “So it Goes” Saturdays. The phrase “so it goes” appears in Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five 116 times. Can you help me collect 116 “so it goes” tattoos? 10 down, 106 to go.

It’s pretty tattoo, but ashes in the ink… kinda creepy.
My childhood cat was named Jello too.
Gorgeous tattoo.
I agree the ashes thing is kinda creepy. I mean, I love my cat, but you won’t see me injecting her remains into my body.
I love it, I have So it Goes tattooed on my chest, hopefully ill get it posted soon, very cool
When I read about the genesis of this tatoo, I was moved by the mingling of the ashes- how much more meaningful than the tatoos many people get today as a fashion statement. A rue memento mori.
And what a perfect, beautiful quote; Vonnegut’s “So it goes” is not just a memento mori- it signfies the inability to explain the unexplainable.. Of course Vonnegut applies this to a huge canvas- but the smaller pains matter to him and us too. I lost my own cat to a disease that was never explained- this is very difficult.
I applaud your creativity and sensitivity
I think this is so beautiful!
I’m a girl with a boy name too.
Lovely. I think it is quite awesome to mix in the ashes, actually — true love, that.
I’m sorry your kitty left so young. ;(
I can completely understand the bond you had with your cat. I love Vonnegut, but also that you took the tattoo to a very personal level. Pretty.
