the tigers have found me
This is Karla's tattoo:
“I’ve always been ‘Daddy’s little girl.’ But my father wasn’t Ward Cleaver by any stretch. He was bipolar and often self medicated with alcohol. Still, I worshipped him. When I was 18, he committed suicide in our home and my whole world fell apart. A writer by trade, I was left without words to describe how I felt. For 12 years I searched. Strangely, when they finally appeared, they were someone else’s; Bukowski’s “For Jane.” No one has better expressed the strange understanding you come to with this sort of grief. How, at some point, you understand that it is now a part of you. You couldn’t be who you are without it. So let the bloody tigers come!
225 days under grass
and you know more than I.
they have long taken your blood,
you are a dry stick in a basket.
is this how it works?
in this room
the hours of love
still make shadows.
when you left
you took almost
everything.
I kneel in the nights
before tigers
that will not let me be.
what you were
will not happen again.
the tigers have found me
and I do not care.
- "For Jane" by Charles Bukowski
