So it goes #21

Literary Tattoos: Slaughterhouse Five Kurt Vonnegut So it goes.

This is Nancy’s tattoo.

This is my first tattoo on the back of my neck a few hours after it was done and I got it for a few reasons. I love the almost black humour and irony used in reference to death and dying; people focus too much on death and not enough on living, as cliche as that sounds. I’m studying journalism and I’m a freelance writer so I enjoy how it’s used stylistically as a narrative transition. Lastly, although obscure, I like to related it to my favourite Friedrich Nietzsche quote “God is dead”. This I relate to the death of organised religion and rediscovering your own moral compass by which you live by.

This was posted as a part of “So it Goes” Saturdays. The phrase “so it goes” appears in Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five 106 times. Can you help me collect 106 “so it goes” tattoos? 21 down, 85 to go.
