This is Carolyn‘s tattoo.
I was at Trader Joe’s. The checker said, “What’s that tattoo?”
“It’s from a book,” trying to leave it at that.
“Is it from a Pynchon book?”
“Yeah, it is.” I love this book. So happy to talk about it. “Have you read it?”
“Oh no,” he shook his head. “You’re the third person in here this this
week who has it.”
My tattoo is a cliche! But since it indicates a vast secret network, I think it’s not so bad that I’m not the only one.
Here are a couple more!
This is Tim’s.
I’m not a habitual re-reader of books but I often find myself pulling The Crying of Lot 49 down from the shelves. The muted post horn symbol and the group it is used by long ago captured my imagination. I had been thinking about having the symbol tattooed for a while and eventually couldn’t wait any longer.
This is Jon’s.
