Let it Be

Although I’m not particularly religious, this song is one of my favorites. I’ve grown up with my family loving The Beatles and was exposed to their music via my brother. (“Yellow Submarine” was the first song I ever heard, with “Yesterday” being my ultimate Beatles song.) The expression “let it be” itself is a reminder to allow things to fall into place. To let situations work themselves out, not over-analyze and obsess over every detail until I drive myself insane. To let things happen as they do. It’s also a reminder that if everything is going wrong, if things aren’t happening the way I want them to, let go and take the situation as a sign. Not to surrender, but to realize this isn’t mean to happen, to move on and continue. It’s a reminder to take things as they come, to live, and as Tupac said, leave the pieces on the floor and move on. This was only proved when I first attempted to get this tattooed and left my wallet in someone else’s car, leaving me with no means of paying for it. I ended up changing the initial design of the tattoo to what is now and couldn’t be more happier with it. Now, when things aren’t exactly awesome, I can remind myself to just let it be.

I have a habit of dwelling on inconsequential issues in life and “let it be” reminds me to step back and take a breath before overreacting. This song got me through a series of bad events in my life and it showed me that things will be ok, eventually. Not only is this my favorite song, but it also has a lot of meaning to my mother which makes this tattoo all the more special to me. McCartney wrote this song about his mother so I found it very fitting not only for my connection to the lyrics, but also for the actual placement on my body. I wanted it somewhere that would always be a convenient reminder that will “whisper words of wisdom” to me.

This tattoo is one of the more famous Beatles quotes but also how I live my life. Just let it be and everything will be alright, you move on and move through as long as you can let it be.

I got this tattoo in order to remind myself to let things go, certain people, events, places, and mind sets.

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

- The Beatles, Let it Be
