Literary Tattoos: The Lord of the Rings J. R. R. Tolkien

“End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path… One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass… And then you see it. White shores… and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

- Gandalf, The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

This actually isn’t the passage that’s in the book, the tattoo is more related to a scene in the movie between Gandalf and Pippin that is based on an excerpt that comes much later in the novel. Saying that I do like the films too and that it a lovely scene

This is a quote from the movie, not the book. Tolkien never described death that way. This is a description of Valinor, not Heaven. The bulk of the quote is from the narration at the end of RotK where there is a description of Bilbo sailing to the west. Gandalf never says these words in the books.
