Infinite

This is Erin’s.

I fell in love with the perks of being a wallflower and decided to get this tattoo to remember the times when I felt infinite.

This quote means everything to me. It’s great to look down and have a little reminder to try to make every moment feel infinite.

Charlie, the main character, reminded me a lot of myself in a lot of ways. I’m a natural pessimest, and i tend to worry about a lot of things that don’t really need worrying. I over think certain things to the point where I get these panic attacks for no reason at all. Even though Charlie isn’t necessarily ‘real’, he’s real to me. When I read the line, “I feel infinite.”, I sort of froze for a minute, and immediately got goosebumps. The tattoo is kind of a personal reminder that life, no matter how hard it gets, doesn’t stop; for anyone. It’s not so much important to worry over the little things, because we all learn to cope. Incidentally, it’s much more important to seek out infinity. To live, as best as you can. And die happy.

When I first read the book, I kept rereading that same line over and over, and the character Charlie, thinking that maybe these were his ‘glory days’ and he wasn’t even realizing it.

I choose to get the mathematical symbol for infinity, fading into the word itself. to me the line, and the tattoo, are representative of living in the moment, and taking chances, because I will never be as young and carefree as I am now. Like charlie I don’t ever want to look back, and think that I missed the ‘glory days’. I want to appreciate every day as it comes at me.

I got this tattoo because this book was one of the first I read going into high school and it stayed with me through all 4 years and into college. It’s the only book I’ve ever read more than once because I loved it so much. The tattoo says “and in that moment, i swear we were infinite.” I chose this quote because that part of the story explained so much of the feelings I was about to experience. Everyone has the moments in life where everything feels perfect, and you feel like the moment is going to last forever. I never want to lose that feeling and this tattoo is a reminder of that.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, has been my favorite book since the first time I read it, I instantly fell in love. This quote “I feel infinite” is one of my favorites from the book so I decided to get a tattoo with it as a constant reminder that the good in life can outweigh the bad. I hand drew the “wallflower” and the words are in Times New Roman font because that’s the font the book is published in.

Sam tapped her hand on the steering wheel. Patrick held his hand outside the car and made air waves. And I just sat between them. After the song finished, I said something.

“I feel infinite.”

And Sam and Patrick looked at me like I said the greatest thing they ever heard. Because the song was that great and because we all really paid attention to it. Five minutes of a lifetime were truly spend, and we felt young in a good way.”

There is a feeling that I had Friday night after the homecoming game that I don’t know if I will ever be able to describe except to say that it is warm. Sam and Patrick drove me to the party that night, and I sat in the middle of Sam’s pickup truck. Sam loves her pickup truck because I think it reminds her of her dad. The feeling I had happened when Sam told Patrick to find a station on the radio. And he kept getting commercials. And commercials. And a really bad song about love that had the word “baby” in it. And then more commercials. And finally he found this really amazing song about this boy, and we all got quiet.
